Bio
Virginie Arantes (PhD) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Her main research interests are environmental issues and governance, state-society relations, urban life and environmental authoritarianism.

Ongoing: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at REPI
2014 - 2020 : PhD Candidate and F.R.S.- FNRS Research Fellow in the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Dissertation title: From the Avoidable to the Desirable: the Chinese Communist Party 'Green' Authoritarian Strategy. Shanghai as Case Study.
2013 - 2014 : Master degree in Environmental Science and Management at Liège University, Belgium.
2011 - 2013 : Master degree in Intercultural studies China/Europe at SISU (Shanghai) and Minho University (Portugal).
2008 - 2011 : Bachelor degree Oriental Languages and Cultures at Minho University, Portugal.
Travaux sélectionnés
Virginie recently published two papers, a joint article on the process of ‘partyfication’ of non-state actors in China (‘Coping with waste: A government-NGO collaborative governance approach in Shanghai’, Journal of Environmental Management, 2019) and the other on China’s civil society transformation under Xi Jinping’s authoritarian turn (‘Transforming or complying ? The Rise of Social Enterprises in Shanghai’, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, 2020).
