Bio

Omar Jabary Salamanca is a FNRS Research Fellow at the Université libre de Bruxelles. His research and teaching focus on histories, geographies and theories of development, political economy, political ecology, and science and technology studies in colonial contexts. He is also interested in global histories and archival practices of anti-colonial solidarity movements. He is currently completing a book on the contested development of colonial infrastructures in Palestine to be published by Verso Books.

Prior to joining the ULB, Omar was FWO Research Fellow and Lecturer in the Department of Conflict and Development at Ghent University and a Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. In 2014-2016 he was a Marie Curie Fellow in the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University.

Omar serves on the editorial board of Arab Urbanism and Jadaliyya Cities; the international advisory boards of Antipode and ACME; the steering committee of the International Critical Geography Group; and the reading committee of Regards. He is also co-founder and programmer for the Eye On Palestine Arts and Film Festival.
