Bio

Jihane Sfeir is a historian of the modern Arab world and a professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She is the founder of the Observatoire des Mondes Arabe et Musulman (OMAM). A researcher attached to REPI (Recherche en Enseignement et Politique Internationale), she teaches the history of the Arab world, the Ottoman Empire and relations between Europe and the Arab world. Her research and publications focus on Palestinian refugees, archives, history, political thought and memory in the Arab world, with a particular focus on Lebanon.
Her publications include L'exil palestinien au Liban : le temps des origines 1947-1952, IFPO/Karthala, Beyrouth/Paris, 2008, in collaboration with L. Seurat, Écrits politiques arabes. Une anthologie du Machrek au Maghreb au XXe siècle. CNRS, Paris, 2022, and with C. Jungen, Archiver au Moyen-Orient. Fabriques documentaires contemporaines. IISMM/Karthala, Paris, 2019.
